Perfect for Anywhere Wool Rugs

Rugs can be one of the most difficult parts of a room to commit to. As most designers, we suggest working from the ground up when planning your room. With that being said, the best thing to decide on is the rug. If the room is going to not have a formal feel and need something durable, the perfect thing is a wool rug. Especially since they can be scotch guarded. They are super for a room that will have heavy foot traffic. Benches that have no backs have so many different uses! You can use it right at the foot of a bed, use it against a wall and through some fun pillows on the back and make it a cozy place to sit, you can use it at a dining table for seating and you can even use it as a coffee table. Th great thing about having one, is you can always find a home for one!

Really Cool Leaded Glass Pieces

We have a few pieces of Framed Leaded Glass at the shop. They can be hung outside, inside and look really fantastic hanging right in front of a window inside your house. The quality can not be beat and neither can the prices!

Great Accent Table!

This Scalloped Pedestal Table made by Surroundings, Inc. is the perfect accent table for anyroom. They are great for a side table, nightstand, bistro table and lamp table. I love the lines of it. Every customer has been so happy with the way it turns out in their room!

Hilarious & Adorable Cards

A few months ago I bought a friend the best card. Since then, I have not been able to stop thinking about how great that card was. Totally perfect in every way. Since then, I have kept thinking about it and have been researching to find out who made it and how I can offer these perfect cards at Urban Cottage. Well, finally I was able to find the artist and her company. They are Amy Smyth Cards. And finally, they can be found out the shop! The cards are absolutely hilarious and adorable. Come and check them out at the shop! They just arrived.

Virginia Highland Summerfest

The Virginia Highland Summerfest was this past weekend. We had so much fun at Urban Cottage over the weekend. A few of our wonderful friends joined us and set up in tents right in front of the shop! We had Concrete Lace, Madame Mandala, Breathless Paper Co., the Akola Foundation selling their handmade necklaces made by the widows of Uganda, Coleccion Luna with Guatemalan Handmade bags, Poppy Sam's clothing, Talulah B's vintage jewelry and Vintage jewelry maker Katherine Smith! We all had a great time together!

Making Cleaning So Much Better

No one really wants to clean, but when it is all done, the result is fabulous! The whole experience can be made so much better just by picking the right cleaning products. My favorite products are Caldrea. They are by far the best! We carry the Lavender Pine, Green Tea, Basil Blue Sage and Ginger Pomelo scents at the shop. The products are all natural so they are no harmful in anyway. The products range from dish liquid, counter top cleanser, all purpose cleaner, laundry detergent to hand soap and hand lotion. When the house has been cleaned with Caldrea products, it is wonderful!

Cozy Throws

There is nothing better than a wonderful cozy throw to use whenever you are relaxing. Plus they can add a little texture and color in a room! We have really cozy hand knitted throws in the shop all the time!

The Best Vintage Jewelry

Heather Curtis is part of our Urban Cottage Team. In addition to that, she creates absolutely the best jewelry. She uses Vintage pieces and turns them into one of a kind necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Each piece she creates by hand with careful attention to every single detail. Because her things are so wonderful, they do not stick around the shop for long! There is so much jewelry out there but I honestly have to say that her things are so much more original that most things you come across. In fact, about a year ago she came into the shop. She had her jewelry with her and I took a peak at it. I knew she would do well with it. The funny thing about this story is that she came in looking for a job. I instantly knew she would be a great asset to the shop. So, she joined our team. I kept on her about her jewelry and told her it would do great. It became a funny joke between us and finally she started to sell it. And now, it flies out the door! People are constantly buying pieces for themselves and for gifts. Some customers keep coming back for more pieces! They have gotten hooked on Heather Curtis' Jewelry!
